The Science and Engineering Apprentice Program (SEAP) at ARL:UT offers recent high school graduates, who have been accepted to UT Austin, a unique opportunity to engage in full-time, hands-on research. Apprentices work on real-world projects alongside scientists and engineers in dynamic research laboratories, gaining practical experience in fields such as computer science, engineering (aerospace, electrical, mechanical), geophysics, mathematics, and physics. The program emphasizes completing a summer-long project and a technical report, providing students with their first exposure to a laboratory research-and-development environment. This experience helps students explore potential career paths and develop valuable skills in scientific inquiry and technical reporting.
Apprentices are expected to work a 40-hour week, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, engaged in their assigned research projects with scientists and engineers.
This program is ideal for graduating high school seniors who have been accepted to UT Austin and are interested in pursuing majors in aerospace, electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science, geophysics, mathematics, or physics, and who are eager to gain hands-on research experience.
